The Smartest Girl in the Room The New Pioneers Volume 1 Deborah NamKrane 9781483998978 Books Reviews

I was given a copy of this book through Juniper Grove Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

This book is not my usual reading material... However, I read the blurb and decided to give it a chance. Boy am I glad I did!! This book was amazing! This is a really great book for New/Young Adults! Emily growing up in this day and age and still having that innocence was cool to read! There is really a lot going on in this book and it had me going from the beginning!! I loved getting to switch back and forth between the points of view and see the story from more than one angle… This book would best suit contemporary suspense readers!!

I give this book 5 out of 5 shields!!
I received this book for free this is my voluntarily giving review.

First off this is not my normal General that I like to read so it was a little more difficult for me to get through the um storyline however after reading this book the same I'm going to give it 5 stars because I did enjoy it I don't think I'm going to be reading any more like this but I did enjoy this book very much.
On our journey to find happiness & understanding what we desire can sometimes lead to heartache, but when in doubt always trust your inner voice. ;-) This is one of those books you find yourself cheering the girl on, & then get that swift slap to he face as she makes a questionable decision. Luckily she never allows her inner voice to be squashed out, & takes the world on without fearing the consequences!
Emily is funny, smart, & I genuinely like her & her friends (okay most of them.) This is a story I would appreciate my daughters reading as it brings some very important yet sensitive matters to light, but balances it out with humor & using knowledge to our ability. I always appreciate when an author can do this without going to that super dark side. She succeeds in getting the points across without going overboard making a very enjoyable read!
This book was ultimately about choices, and how one's choice has a ripple effect on other people.

When Emily meets Mitch Graham, she sees stars, and can't wait to see him again. Mitch is totally taken with Emily, but he has reservations. She's only nineteen, and he's going away to Ireland in a matter of weeks, so doesn't believe they have a future. This is when his choices change his and Emily's life. Temptation takes him away from Emily, causing him to have some serious regrets. He's still set to go to Ireland to study, so those regrets get pushed to the back of his mind.

Emily, hurt by Mitch's rejection decides to put her trust in someone else. Soon, she realizes just how bad of a decision that is. Drew seems like a great guy, and his attention is at first what Emily wants. When his true colors come out, Emily manages to escape with the help of someone who turns out to be a true friend.

When something horrible happens to her best friend Zainab, this gives her the strength to leave David behind for good. Taking matters into her own hands, causes her to be reunited with Mitch. At first, she's angry. Rightfully so. This is when Mitch begins to right the wrong he did to her and she doesn't not make it easy for him.

I really enjoyed this book! I love when a book keeps me up late at night! I loved Emily, although there were times she took herself a bit too seriously. I wish I was as smart as she was though...

Mitch, for all his faults, loves her very much and sets out to prove to her that he really wants her in his life. I loved the friendship between her, Zainab, and Richard, who she meets through Drew. He was the one good thing that came out of the relationship!

Because of him, she fins a true kindred spirit when she needs one!
This was a departure for me as I have not read much chick lit, but just a few pages into the story and I was hooked. Emily is someone that I liked; exceptionally loyal to her friends, a little naïve, and obsessively driven to accomplish her cherished goal of getting her college degree. Emily is bright and witty and sort of nerdy - she loves Star Trek and frequently peppers her conversations with bits of Star Trek trivia. I am a fan, too, so I enjoyed reminiscing some of the factoids. Emily meets Mitch and the pair really hit it off with one truly enchanted evening. Unfortunately, for both, but primarily for Mitch, the timing is bad and their budding romance is terminated. Mitch makes a poor decision then compounds the problem with additional stupid choices. Emily is hurt but also faces some serious money problems. Determined to move on with her life, she accepts help from Drew. Drew initially fools her into thinking he is a good guy, but soon his true colors begin to emerge. Thankfully, Emily's best friend is a constant in her life with each of them supporting each other through thick and thin.

This is a charmingly observant look at relationships, friendship, and romance. The story is set in Boston. As I read, I got a great feel for student life on the small Boston campus. I never much warmed up to Mitch again after that first royal debacle. Thankfully, at least, Emily did not make it easy for Mitch to worm his way back into her affections. Personally, I think he should have been kicked to the curb, but you decide, maybe you will feel more charitable.

I downloaded this book from during a "free" promotion.
