I'm giving it five stars because it's excellent, and because the plight of women during wartime needs more awareness. But I can't say I "love" it because it is such difficult material. I will say that the overall message is one of hope and reclamation.

Came as expected. Great quality and timing.
I had a problem following the book. Lots of superstition.

I received this book, which I couldn't find elsewhere, in about 8 days. Its cost was $.01, which meant I paid postage for a free book, essentially. The book is one of a genre I feel important to read and an era I feel important to understand. In addition, the spirit world of Korea, so powerful, came through with great clarity. Glad I ordered this!
A wonderful novel that gives insights into Korean shaman culture, and the realities of survival for women in Korea under Japanese occupation.
This book made me feel.

First off the imagery, descriptiveness and detail is impeccable.

Second off, the cultural spiritual points were amazing.

Third, the perspectives were so well thought out. The mother and daughter, but especially the mother was so well done. We don't just see "ex sex slave and americanized Korean daughter". We see and feel two very detailed complicated people.
